macOS Ventura

OpenCore Legacy Patcher and macOS Ventura

Ventura support often involves 2013 to 2016 Macs, Mac Pro GPU upgrades, USB devices, and root patching.

Ventura introduced important graphics, USB, and hardware compatibility concerns for older Macs.

Newly dropped Ventura hardware

The Ventura docs list a large group of Intel Macs dropped by Apple, including late 2015 iMacs, 2015 MacBook Air, 2015 MacBook Pro, 2016 MacBook and MacBook Pro, 2014 Mac mini, and 2013 Mac Pro.

  • iMac16,1, iMac16,2, and iMac17,1
  • MacBook9,1
  • MacBookAir7,1 and MacBookAir7,2
  • MacBookPro11,4, MacBookPro11,5, MacBookPro12,1, MacBookPro13,1, MacBookPro13,2, and MacBookPro13,3
  • Macmini7,1 and MacPro6,1

Ventura issues to understand

AVX2 graphics constraints

Ventura requires AVX2 for native graphics acceleration, affecting pre-Haswell Macs with certain upgraded GPUs.

USB 1.1 removal

Penryn systems and pre-2013 Mac Pros can lose support for keyboard, trackpad, IR, and Bluetooth devices that rely on USB 1.1.

Wireless notes

Older Atheros and Broadcom wireless issues were documented as resolved in OCLP 0.6.0 and newer, but hardware still matters.

Non-Metal

Non-Metal graphics acceleration was a major challenge in earlier Ventura notes and is model dependent.
