macOS Monterey

OpenCore Legacy Patcher and macOS Monterey

Monterey is still a common target for older Macs because it can be lighter than newer releases while adding modern macOS features.

Monterey remains a practical target for many older Intel Macs.

Newly dropped Monterey hardware

The Monterey page lists iMac14,4, iMac15,1, MacBook8,1, MacBookAir6,1, MacBookAir6,2, MacBookPro11,1, MacBookPro11,2, and MacBookPro11,3 as models added into OCLP support for Monterey.

  • iMac 21.5-inch Mid 2014 and Retina 5K Late 2014
  • MacBook Retina 12-inch Early 2015
  • MacBook Air Mid 2013 and Early 2014
  • MacBook Pro Retina Late 2013 and Mid 2014 models

MacBookPro11,3 booting note

MacBookPro11,3 may need to boot Monterey into safe mode if acceleration patches are not installed yet. Safe Mode can be entered by holding Shift + Enter when selecting macOS in the OCLP boot picker.

Patch graphics after install

Missing acceleration can cause black screens or very poor performance on affected systems.

Wireless and Bluetooth notes

The Monterey docs include historical wireless and Bluetooth support drops that were resolved in later OCLP versions. Still, old Broadcom and Atheros hardware can require patches or hardware upgrades depending on model and target macOS.
